Prop 65

Prop 65, also known as “The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986”, a California law requiring California to have a list of chemicals which the State of California identified may cause reproductive harm or cancer. Also, all business that operates in California must provide “Reasonable and Legible Warning” on all products sold in California in case there is a chance of their products containing any of the chemicals on this list.

California requires all “persons in the course of doing business” whose products are sold in California to comply with Prop 65, also federal laws for public safety.

What is the Warning Notice for California Prop 65?
The warning label “WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.” must be on all products sold in the State of California if they contain chemicals on the Proposition list of hazardous substances. 

What type of chemicals is on the Prop 65 list?
This list of chemicals contains more than 850 different chemicals and must be updated once a year. The list has a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that are known to cause reproductive harm or cancer or birth defects’. These chemicals are used/ can be used in common manufacturing or construction manufacturing or construction practices, or maybe by productive of chemical products and processes, such as vehicle exhaust.

What product categories are covered under this warning?
Many commonly used items fall under the State of California’s Prop 65 mandates. Additionally, real properties are subject to California’s Prop 65 mandates due to the possibility of dangerous or hazardous materials being present in the nearby environment. Some of the product and California locations that require the State of California Prop 65 warning label include:

  • Products created with Fabric, Vinyl, Leather, Foam, Non-woven, and Synthetic Material
  • Tableware, Glassware, and Ceramics
  • Batteries and/or Products that contain batteries
  • Beauty Products (including lotions and first-aid kits)
  • Hardware Suppliers
  • Grocery Stores
  • Drug Stores
  • Medical Facilities
  • Government Agencies
  • Retail Stores
  • Parking Garages

What chemical(s) in Travelers Club products does this warning apply to?
All Traveler’s Club parts and fabrics are made from durable and safe materials. However, as there are many chemicals used throughout manufacturing processes, our products may contain a trace amount of any of the 850+ chemicals on the California Proposition 65 Warning List.
